Observation of Gravity Wave Vertical Propagation through a Mesospheric Inversion Layer

The impact of a mesospheric temperature inversion on the vertical propagation gravity waves has been investigated using OH airglow images and ground-based Rayleigh lidar measurements carried out in December 2017 at Haute-Provence Observatory (OHP, France, 44N). These provide complementary information that allows to be followed. An intense layer (MIL) observed near 60 km altitude with disappeared middle night, offering unique opportunity evaluate its wave (GW) above cameras. With these two instruments, 150 min period was also identified meteorological analyses. waves’ potential energy profile clearly shows GW lost below large increase exhibiting higher frequency. MILs are known cause instabilities top part, this is probably reason for enhanced above.
